Deer Are Scary As Shit! (#Win)

Deer are scary at 4:30 am when they are scared and running down the street right where the one streetlight on my route is out! Yikes! I've seen one other deer while out on my morning runs recently but it was in an area where the running deer was back-lit and I could kind of tell what it was doing. But, this morning it just took off across the street in front of me and I couldn't really see where it was or where it was planning to go. I could just hear her hooves on the asphalt and could tell she didn't know where she was going to go to get away from this crazy human running down the middle of the street.

This was barely two minutes away from home and I was still walking for my warm up. I was ready to turn around and just go home. That is all I needed today - some crazy wild animal attack or something. Nope. I was not going to be that person on the local news. I guess it was more spooky than it was scary.

But, luckily the rest of my run was completely uneventful.  I ran on the main road again this morning, but not all the way to the fire station like yesterday. I didn't have any extra time for extra distance this morning.  It was my second try at the three minute running segments. It was a little easier than yesterday, but not much!  I might be repeating week three of the C25K app next week to increase my stamina.  The weather was cool this morning and the humidity low which made it all so much better than Saturday's run.

Today, after work I have to stop at the library and pick up my inter-library loan (The Third Plate, by Dan Barber), the post office to pick up 1 cent stamps (because frackin' postage went up again on postcards), and then to the gym for my "fitness orientation" with the trainer. No rowing today---I'm still healing.

  1. Cool on seeing the deer in your neighborhood. I'm always looking for wildlife on my trail runs. The best one was the big horn sheep that one time. Never a snake, and believe me, I'm looking for them. Usually on my street runs I see bunnies and cats. I'm surprised, with the neighborhood so close to the open desert, those little critters don't have much of a chance with coyotes and owls.
