By the time I was walking down my mostly dark street, in 80 degree weather with 94% humidity, I still hadn't decided. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a three mile run and really push myself this morning, or if I wanted to do Week 5, Day 1 of my C25K app. I figured the road would tell me. The road would tell me when I should turn around and go home.
I knew I had to watch my route this morning. No running near lots of trees, grass, or bushes because I came home from yesterday's run with about six bug bites. I seem to be very allergic to the mosquitoes in North Carolina because I get huge, dark red spots where I get bug bites. They hurt more than they itch. And, they just aren't pretty!
I went out on the main road. First five-minute segment: Win! After slowing down to jump over a ditch to get to the sidewalk, I only had to take one short walk break towards the end. Second five-minute segment: Win! Again, only needing one little walk break (which is usually about 5 breathing cycles: three steps breathing in, two steps breathing out). Towards the end of this segment, I found a really nice place to turn around--so I did. Last five-minute segment: Win! Only two little walk breaks this time. And, before I knew it, I was almost back to my neighborhood walking home.
It was a good run, and I feel really good about tackling Week 5, Day 1 today. I forgot until I was back in the house that I thought I might go three miles today instead. But, I had two miles in 26:28 today (I'm usually trying to get my first two miles under 25 minutes), and an overall distance of 2.69 miles. I'm glad I didn't push myself to go the extra distance this morning because I think I would not feel so positive about my morning run today. I still need to make a trip to the gym today, and go shopping in the city.

You are having some positive days lately, that's great!
ReplyDeleteI was also awake before my alarm, like an hour. For some reason I was done sleeping, I guess. So I got up a few minutes early and did some rowing. I checked on the Free Spirits leaderboard, picked a doable distance of a person ahead of me and added one meter. That bumped me up several slots. Sometimes, the people I jump over don't row much so I won't see the name again. Sometimes, they're regulars and I'll pick a name and try to compete with that person (in my mind). The next two people ahead of me now also rowed the Summer Solstice Challenge (21k meters or a half marathon) and are less than 2k meters ahead. I will pass them soon. I am really glad I got back into my rowing routine along with running, I think getting up at the same time everyday is helping to stay motivated and not see-saw between getting up early and then sleeping in an hour. Tomorrow: 4 mile run.
